Many will agree that the bedroom is one of the most important places in one’s home. Whether you spend a lot of time in it or not, your bedroom should be a place where you can feel peace. Like the feeling you get from a relaxing vacation. A place where you can forget about the stressful demands of work and daily life, where we can rejuvenate ourselves, leaving us to feel restored and energized.
When we feel good, it’s easier to come up with fresh and creative ideas. We can be ourselves and live from our heart. Creating a luxurious bedroom will allow you to feel good every day, not just when you’ve taken a vacation. What’s the best thing about bringing this feeling into your bedroom? It can cost much less then taking a vacation!
Choosing the Right Colours
One of the most important elements to your room is the paint color. Choose a color that promotes relaxation and clarity. Our personal favorites are light neutrals, like what you would find in a high-end spa. If you prefer something besides neutral, blue hues promote sleep without making you feel overwhelmed from too much color. Check out Benjamin Moore 2019 Color Trends for some attractive ideas. If you are someone that love’s to live with lots of color, check out this chart to learn how they promote different emotions.
Start Decluttering
Clutter creates stress! Take some time to remove any clutter, whether it be unused furniture, papers, kid’s toys, unfolded clothes… start living by the phrase “a place for everything and everything in its place”.
Storage boxes are a great way to hide things that you need easy access too. These MISSLO under the bed storage boxes can hold comforters, clothes, toys and much more! They have a zipper closure to keep out dust and moister, a viewing window to see what is inside and sturdy handles on the side that slide the bag in and out with ease. Make sure you keep your bed side tables clean. Try sticking to the basics, a lamp, water bottle and alarm clock. A bed side table with a drawer will encourage you to put things away when you’re not using them. Your dresser should also be kept clutter free. Perfume, jewelry and other small trinkets can all find a place out of sight. A great method I like to live by is the KonMari Method by Marie Kondo. Marie teaches to tidy your space by only keep things that speak to the heart, and discard items that no longer spark joy.
Headboard
Headboard’s can be a great focal point in the room and there are lots of options to suit your own personal style and budget. If you prefer something that has an elegant, expensive look, check out this gorgeous upholstered headboard from Zinus Trina.
Or maybe you enjoy a good “Do it yourself” project? We found plans to make something similar here. Is your room going to have that chic farmhouse feeling? A carbon steel Sanford headboard would be a lovely addition. It brings in that rustic feeling without buying second-hand. It’s simple and timeless, something you can pass on to future generations.
Mirrors
Adding a mirror will reflect lighting, brightening the room, making it feel more spacious. The bigger the mirror, the more space it will appear to create. If you place a mirror across from a window not only will you bring in extra light, you will also reflect in colors from outside.
You can always find mirrors at second hand thrift stores. Clean with a little soap and hot water, it will be good as new for a fraction of the cost. By adding a frame, you are now making your mirror a beautiful statement piece. This BlueMake mirror is elegant and adds a unique beauty. It’s also the perfect size to use more than one.
Lighting
The right lighting will set the mood in each room. It can make the room feel brighter, larger, grander, and more luxurious. If your room has a lot of natural light you can use curtains to control the amount of natural light coming in and still have privacy from the outside world. Check out these sheer curtains we found. They are available in many difference sizes and a rainbow of colors to match any décor. When we can’t count on natural lighting to give this feeling, we can create it on our own.
Use soft white light bulbs like these Sylvania LED bulbs to create a nice glow. LED bulbs are 80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent lights. LED bulbs use less energy, decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. What does that mean? LED bulb’s will save you money on your energy bill every month and last longer!
A dimming switch, like this smart one which is compatible with Alexa, will allow you to increase or decrease the amount of light shining at any given time. Create a low light for when it’s time to relax and brighten it up when you need a little extra energy.
Another great idea to incorporate a table or standing lamp instead of over-head lighting. Overhead lighting can be harsh and unflattering while a table or standing lamp is more forgiving and can also contribute to the overall style and ambience.
With these tip’s and trick’s, you will be able to turn any bedroom into a luxurious escape without putting a big dent in your bank account.
